Should I Use Google Business Profile or a Website?
Short answerYou need both. A Google Business Profile gets you found on Maps and local search. A website gives you credibility and depth. One without the other is incomplete.

This is a common trap for small business owners. A Google Business Profile is free, shows up on Maps, and lets customers call you with one tap. It feels like enough. It isn’t.

What a Google Business Profile is good for: Getting found by people searching for what you do in your area. It shows your hours, location, phone number, and reviews. For someone who already knows roughly what they want and just needs to pick, it’s perfect.

What a website is good for: Everything else. A website shows your full range of services, your portfolio or past work, your pricing, your story, and why someone should choose you over the other three businesses in the map pack. It’s where a potential customer goes from “interested” to “ready to call.”

The problem with relying only on a GBP: Google limits what you can put in your profile. You get a few hundred characters for a description, a handful of categories, and a photo gallery. You can’t explain a complex service, showcase a portfolio, or address common objections. And if Google changes something — your profile layout, the fields, or the algorithm — you have no control.

The problem with relying only on a website: A website alone won’t show up in the Google Maps pack. The map pack is powered by your Google Business Profile, not your site. Without a GBP, you’re invisible in the most visible part of local search results.

The real answer: Spend 30 minutes setting up your Google Business Profile. Spend one weekend building a simple website. Link them together — your website goes in your profile, and your profile shows up in your website’s contact page. That combination covers every way a customer might look for you.

Do I Need a Website If I Have a Facebook Page?

Yes. A Facebook page is rented space — you do not control the algorithm, own your audience, or rank in Google search the same way. A simple one-page site with your hours and phone gives you credibility and control.
