Run the washer’s clean cycle about once a month, then wipe the rubber door gasket, detergent drawer, and any accessible filter so residue does not turn into odor or mildew. Whirlpool says its Clean Washer cycle uses hotter water plus a washer cleaner or liquid chlorine bleach, and LG also points to the dispenser, drain pump filter, inlet filters, and door seal as spots that need regular attention.
Leaving the door open after a load helps the inside dry out, which matters because front-loaders trap moisture around the seal more easily than top-load machines. If your washer does not have a clean cycle, use the hottest water and highest water level the manual allows for a maintenance cycle.
A reliable washing machine cleaner is a small investment that makes this easier: washing machine cleaner.
