If you do not have WD-40, the best backup is usually a dry lubricant made for hinges or locks. You can also remove the hinge pin, clean it, and apply a small amount of petroleum jelly or bar soap as a temporary fix.
Before lubricating, check whether the screws are loose. A squeak can come from movement as much as from friction, and tightening the hinge sometimes solves it immediately.
Wipe away any excess so you do not attract dust. The goal is smooth movement, not a greasy hinge collecting lint.
