Cellulite is the dimpled texture that happens when fat sits under skin that is tethered by connective bands. It is common, especially on thighs, hips, and buttocks, and it is not simply a sign of being “out of shape.” Genetics, hormones, skin thickness, age, and fat distribution all matter.
The realistic goal is improvement, not a cure. Strength training can make cellulite less noticeable by building muscle under the area. Regular movement, stable weight, enough protein, not smoking, and basic skin care can also help the skin look firmer, though none of these changes removes the underlying connective structure.
For stronger results, a board-certified dermatologist can discuss treatments with better evidence. The American Academy of Dermatology lists acoustic wave therapy, laser treatment, subcision, and vacuum-assisted tissue release among options that may reduce the appearance of cellulite. Mayo Clinic also notes that lasers, radiofrequency, and subcision can help some people.
Be skeptical of miracle creams, detoxes, and one-session promises. Some topical products temporarily tighten or hydrate skin, which can improve appearance for a few hours, but that is not the same as structural change. If cellulite bothers you enough to spend real money, start with a dermatology consult instead of buying a long chain of products.
