What do Flock cameras capture?

Flock says its cameras are designed to capture license plates and vehicle details, not faces. The company explicitly says they do not use facial recognition.

The vehicle record can include the plate number, make, model, color, time, location, and other visible features. Flock’s materials also mention details like missing or covered plates, bike racks, trailers, and toolboxes when those are visible from the road.

That matters because the camera is not just logging a plate in isolation. It is creating a vehicle snapshot that can be searched later. Even if a person’s face is not the target, the combination of vehicle attributes, location, and time can still reveal a lot about where someone has been.

So the short answer is: it is vehicle-focused surveillance, not face recognition. But it still produces a detailed travel record tied to a specific car.
