Wi-Fi slows down in one room because the radio signal from your router has to travel through walls, floors, doors, furniture, and sometimes plumbing or ductwork to get there. Every obstacle eats some of the signal, and the farther the room is from the router, the weaker the connection gets. That is why one bedroom, basement, or upstairs office can feel unusable while the rest of the house is fine.
Different materials block different amounts. Drywall is mild. Brick, plaster, tile, and especially concrete are much worse. Metal is the real killer because it reflects or absorbs the signal instead of letting it pass through. If the router is tucked behind a TV, inside a cabinet, or beside a refrigerator, you can lose enough signal to make one room crawl.
The easiest fix is often placement: move the router more central, higher off the floor, and away from big metal objects or thick walls. If that still does not solve it, a mesh node or wired access point is usually better than a cheap extender. Extenders can help, but they often cut speed because they have to listen and retransmit on the same channel. If the room is a dead zone because of construction, not distance, wiring a second access point is the more durable fix.
