For your public IP — the one websites see — open any browser and search “what is my IP.” Google, DuckDuckGo, or whatismyip.com will display it at the top of the results page. This is the address the outside world uses to send traffic back to you.
For your device’s local IP on the same network as your router, the steps differ by platform. On Windows, open Command Prompt and run ipconfig. On macOS, open System Settings → Network and select your active connection. On a phone, look in Wi-Fi settings and tap the connected network’s details.
The difference matters: your public IP identifies you on the internet, while your local IP identifies your device to your home router. Most “find my IP” questions are about the public one — usually to set up remote access, troubleshoot a connection, or check whether a VPN is working.
